Ed received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the State University of New York at Albany. His research primarily focused on the total synthesis of naturally occurring polycyclic aromatic quinones that demonstrated biological activity and his work expanded upon the existing synthetic methods for these targets. From there, Ed joined a small CRO in New Castle, DE where he rose to the position of Group Leader, at one point managing 8 Ph.D. and MS chemists. After fours years, missing the beautiful Northeast weather, he moved back up north joining Vertex Pharmaceuticals in Cambridge, MA. During his 15 years at Vertex, he worked as both a Scale-up and Medicinal Chemist in the fields of Infectious Disease, Inflammation, Oncology, and Rare Disease. He has co-authored a number of scientific publications and patents in the fields of both organic chemistry and medicinal chemistry. In his spare time Ed enjoys reading and spending time outdoors.
